B.A.R.K. is a social reading program focused on children's learning. This speciality program is specifically designed to help children with their reading and communication skills.
Our team provides support while the child gets supervised reading practice, helping to develop vocabulary, increase understanding, fluency, and confidence.
When one of Paws & Effect's B.A.R.K. dogs are in the room it becomes a very cheerful and comforting learning atmosphere. A fun place where a child's fear and anxiety are replaced with excited anticipation. This program also helps to build their self esteem and to become confident readers.
Learning to read is less about intellectual limitation than about overcoming fears. As you may recall from your early education, fear can paralyze learning. Animals prove to be ideal reading companions and can help comfort those insecurities.
Animals make the greatest of learning companions, as is the case for our dogs. Animals listen attentively and do not judge or criticize. They also tend to promote relaxation, lower blood pressure, and of course, offer love and support.
B.A.R.K. utilizes only registered therapy dogs that have been trained and tested for health, safety, temperament, and relevant skills. When these incredible animals come to interact with children
and to hear them read, there is an atmosphere of positivity and excitement that is priceless.
